DYLAN JOEL SS21 COLLECTION

About the collection

Designer Dylan Joel SS21 collection blinds us with a sense of nostalgia. Tapping into the sounds and visuals of the nineties, Dylan Joel found inspiration in the light-hearted animations films by Studio Ghibli, bringing the stories to life in exaggerated shapes from flares made entirely from second-hand fabrics to his signature visors dipped into an abundance of preciosa crystals, provided by the incredible Crystal Parade @crystalparade1

Delving deeper into the quintessential sounds of the era, the use of denim and the relaxed fits of the oversized jumpers can be ascribed to a mix of the Spice Girls and Grunge music. This marriage results in a unique selection of highly stylised denim pieces, detailed with hand-painted graphics. Contributing to demand for conscious fashion, all denim used was sourced from charity and vintage shops, breathing the new into disregarded clothing.

With his SS21 collection, the Scottish designer takes a greener yet by no means less glamorous turn, following the mantra reduce, reuse, recycled, and add razzle-dazzle.

The film was shot by Dan Groundland @groundlandd, who is Dylan Joel’s brother and the first time working together. It features the talented Bimini from RuPaul’s Drag Race UK and Celine, a sensational ballroom and freestyle dancer. The video encapsulates everything Dylan Joel, campy, glamorous, and free-spirited. The track “Fascinating Light” was created by the dazzling Jodie Harsh. The strong bass and electric sound of Jodie Harsh’s track complements perfectly with the freestyle dancing within the film, creating an effortless and enjoyable fashion film.
