SILKY

SILKNOW is a European project that unites humanities and technology to study, conserve and disseminate silk heritage in Europe between the 15th and 19th centuries. It projects culture, arts, design, and today’s fashion.

A core part of this project is the creation of a virtual loom to preserve the historical weaving techniques and to help enables traditional industries to reduce costs by letting them select colors and techniques with just a click. It encourages designers to create fabrics from historical silk models. In addition, this tool allows the creation of new designs applied to sustainable and recycled materials in 3D printing, with a flexible texture similar to natural fibre.
