Kiss of the Spider Woman (1985) US

Cinema Queer by Marcelino Rosas

Why do I like it? Why do I recommend it?

In honor of the recent passing of William Hurt. I wanted to recommend this beautiful movie, that is bold, touching, original, and very real.

This movie shows escapism and fantasy at its best. It tackles social and political norms in such an effortless and unique way. What these two men go through in this Brazilian prison to escape the harsh reality is amazing to watch. I highly recommend this film if you can manage to find It.

This film is also based on the book by the same name written by Manuel Puig.

Brilliant performances by William Hurt who won the academy award for best leading Actor for this role, Raul Julia who is probably best known as Gomez the father head in The Addams Family movies , and the beautiful Sõnia Braga.

Available platforms to watch it: This one is sadly not available to stream anywhere but you can probably buy the dvd on eBay if you still own a DVD player.
